Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 2014

2014 Camaro models have a revised aerodynamic exterior design that integrates high performance for more efficient cooling and high-speed stability. The new Camaro Z/28 also features an aerodynamic kit that generates support for high speed, which helps to make the offer more runway capacity in the history of the Camaro.

"As the last track with a capacity Camaro, this car restored Z/28 Mission of the original, and serves as a testament to the experience as Chevrolet's best-selling high-performance car brand," said Mark Reuss, president of GM North America. "The sheet construction is the wish list of every driver: lightweight high-revving, dry sump LS7 engine, the cold carbon-ceramic brakes, built for track use, the real strength of support, and a significant reduction the empty weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet and could not be called Z/28 ".

The first Camaro Z/28 was introduced in 1967, created to compete in the Sports Car Club of America Trans-Am class 2. It featured a smaller, lighter, 302-cubic-inch V-8 for better weight balance and quick ratio steering and suspension of the use of high-strength track. Consistent with its approach road race, the 1967 Camaro Z/28 was not available with an automatic transmission and air conditioning.

While the new Camaro Z/28 is not designed to compete in a series of specific race, focuses exclusively on the ability of the road. In the first tests, the Camaro Z/28 is three seconds faster lap than the Camaro ZL1. The extra speed comes from three areas:

• Increased adhesion: The Z/28 is capable of 1.05 g acceleration in bends due to complete the revision of chassis
• Increased braking power: Brembo offers Z/28 able to • 1.5 g deceleration and braking feel coherent carbon-ceramic, round after round
• Weight reduction: The Z/28 air weighs 300 pounds less than the Camaro ZL1 supercharged, with changes ranging from thin lightweight wheels rear glass

Like the original, the 2014 Camaro Z/28 only offered with a manual transmission. In a nod to modern amenities, air conditioning is available, but only as an option.

"We decided to make the race as quickly as possible Camaro was still legal in the streets," said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. "While the Camaro ZL1 delivers outstanding performance in the street, the drag strip and the track, the Z/28 focuses entirely on the performance on the track.'s Follow-Z / 28 will be too focused on the Most drivers, but offers the road-runners one of the longest cars ever offered by an automaker capable of. "

The new line of 2014 Chevrolet Camaro will hit dealerships later in 2013. It is anticipated that the Camaro Z/28 that appears in the track events in the United States in spring 2014.

Aerodynamic high performance highlight changes to the 2014 Camaro

2014 Camaro represents the most significant overhaul since the introduction of the fifth generation Camaro as a prototype in 2006.

"The 2014 Camaro is our chance to put into practice what you've learned by listening to our customers and further development of high-performance models," said Tom Peters, director of exterior design Camaro. "We are looking for solutions that are both beautiful and functional so that the result is genuine Chevrolet -. Simple, powerful, honest, and more than expected"

Compared to the previous model, the design represents an abrupt change to visual and back, giving a more contemporary lowest wider appearance,. The front fascia has a larger lower opening and a narrow top opening that also updates the appearance of icons "halo ring" HID headlights on the packaging RS Camaro. The functional air duct in the Camaro SS reduces heat and aerodynamic lift. Moving to the rear, the decklid lamp diffuser, horizontal complete the sculptures very powerful statement.

The Camaro Z/28 also features a full aerodynamic package designed to produce track speeds support. At the front, has a large Z/28 divider, connected to a bottom panel of the case to further reduce lift. In profile, the Z/28 features wing flares on front and rear wheels and low long-term cash that contribute to the aerodynamic stability. An aggressive rear spoiler and a functional diffuser complete the aerodynamic package.

Inside, the Camaro Z/28 distinctive set offers a matte metallic finish called Octane, the ZL1 flat-bottom steering wheel and standard Recaro seats with microfiber suede inserts. The new seats (also available in the coupe version of the ZL1 and SS models) reinforces aggressive function for high-performance driving and reduced safety inspired five-point harness racing seats found. To save weight, the front seats have manual adjustment.

The rear seats of the Z/28 also been modified to reduce weight. A total of nine pounds (four kilograms) was saved by the elimination of the slope of the pass through as well as the use of high density foam rather than the rigid structure of the seat back and mesh of steel seat bottom.

"Unlike the Ford Mustang Boss 302, we thought it was important to keep the 2 +2 configuration as Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 has a world-class two-seater sports car in the Corvette," said Oppenheiser. "By changing the construction of the back seat, we managed to reduce the overall weight of the Z/28 while preserving the flexibility of 2 2 seats."

7.0L, LS7 heart performance on the track until the Camaro Z/28

Like the original, the new Camaro Z/28 waiver of the maximum power and torque for better weight balance and performance on the track.

In 1967, the most powerful engine available in a factory Camaro was a 396 cid V-8 with 375 horsepower. To prepare the Camaro Z/28 for their careers, engineers specify a lighter, 302 cid V-8, officially rated at 290 horsepower. While the 302 was not the choice for drag racers, which proved ideal for racing sports car.

Today, the most powerful engine offered is 6.2-liter supercharged LSA Camaro ZL1, which delivers 580 horsepower. The heart of the Camaro Z/28 2014 is the lightest, naturally aspirated 7.0L LS7 for the first time in the Corvette Z06.

"The LS7 is ideal for road racing, offering incredible performance in a compact and lightweight" case, said Jordan Lee, chief engineer for small block and the program director. "Broad torque curve and high red line LS7 means fewer changes are required for each round, while the lightweight design improves balance weight before the rear for better handling. "

Co-developed with the Corvette Racing, hand assembled 7.0L (427 cid) V-8 uses a number of high-performance components, including:

• The titanium intake valves and connecting rods and exhaust valves filled with sodium
• CNC aluminum head worn
• hats bearing forged steel crankshaft and main
• High lift camshaft
• collectors hydroforming
• Rate of 11.0:1 compression, and a 7000 rpm redline.
• 10.5 Fourth, the system dry sump lubrication

For the Camaro Z/28, has a single induction LS7 exhaust systems, and at least 500 horsepower (373 kilowatts) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm).

The style of racing, the air and cold air filter K & N intake system provides maximum throughput.

The exhaust system of the standard dual-mode and larger diameter tubes allow better air circulation. Through silent during acceleration, the system increases torque and noise generated by the LS7 engine.

The Z/28 Camaro is offered only with a manual transmission Tremec TR6060. Features close-ratio six-speed and final drive ratio of 3.91:1, both optimized for LS7 power characteristics.

Power is distributed to the rear wheels via a limited slip differential system which provides a helical gear, instead of conventional clutch assemblies. The new design allows the driver to apply more power and achieve faster turns continuously adjust torque bias to maximize the available traction.

The differential works in unison with the Chevrolet Performance Traction Management system patented, which allows drivers to adjust the intervention of brake and accelerator at the height of his abilities and the driving environment.

Unlike offers "path" package some competitors, the standard Camaro Z/28 for all cooling systems needed to track use. This includes lubrication system dry sump LS7, which is connected to a liquid cooling system Oil complete liquid motor.

A second liquid-liquid system of the cooling of the transmission and differential. This pumps the liquid cooling system transmission too a heat exchanger in the rear differential before going to the transmission. This reduces the temperature differences up to 100 degrees F.

Z/28 Camaro chassis provides 1.05 g of cornering

The unique approach Camaro Z/28 is most evident in the chassis, the majority was made up of all components for the use of the track, the ultra high performance tire for buffers tested in competition.

"We use the best components in the industry to offer uncompromised performance, round after round," said Mark Stielow, director of engineering Camaro Z/28. "We made about 200 changes to improve performance on track, which together form the Z/28 capable of 1.05 g cornering. For perspective, all other things being equal increase maximum grip from 1 to 1.05 g can cut up to four seconds per lap ".

The Camaro Z/28 is one of the first production car equipped with spool buffers tested in competition. Compared to a conventional damper that offers only the bidirectional adjustment for bump and rebound damping drawer allows adjustment to four lanes to refine the parameters and rebound stroke wheels at high speed and low speed movements. The wider range of adjustment allowed engineers to significantly increase the stiffness of the damper in the Camaro Z/28 without a significant change in ride quality. Other changes include frame rate of severe chain and suspension bushings for improved cornering response.

The Camaro Z/28 wheels have tires 19 inches in diameter that reduce unsprung weight by 42 pounds (19 kg) per car compared to the standard 20-inch wheels on the Camaro SS and ZL1. Moreover, the smaller diameter wheel to lower the center of gravity by 33 mm, which also improves handling.

The four corners, forged aluminum wheels are wrapped in 305/30ZR19 tires enormous. This is the first performance of production applications Trofeo Pirelli PZero ultra-I tires, and it is estimated that close to the front tire on a production car.

In order to maximize the adhesion of Pirelli tires, the Camaro Z/28 also features Brembo Carbon Ceramic Matrix ™ rotors and calipers fixed single. Large 394 x 36 mm combined with front disc piston calipers, while the rear rotors are 390 mm x 32 twin four-piston calipers. In comparison with the two sides steel rotors of similar size, hard carbon thin Save 28 pounds (12.5 kg) per car.

The combination of tire traction and braking power allows Camaro Z/28 rise to 1.5 g deceleration. With brake cooling ducts Standard before the Z/28 is also able to follow the unique continuous use brake feel lap after lap.

"What makes the Z/28 is so addictive that inspires confidence in all areas of the track," said Stielow. "The incredible performance, balanced helps to achieve more speed in every corner: the brakes are so good that you can adjust your braking points later in life, the depreciation of the handle and the suspension allows you to carry more speed across the top, then the limited slip can take full advantage of the power of the LS7 area. "

Large Lightening saved £ 300 over the Camaro ZL1

To optimize performance Camaro Z/28 track, the engineering team has undergone extensive clearing, saving 100 pounds (45 kg) compared to naturally aspirated Camaro SS and 300 pounds (136 kg) in the supercharged Camaro ZL1.

"We looked at all the opportunities subsystems to gain weight," said Oppenheiser. "Our goal was to eliminate everything that does not make the car faster, and keep only what is required by law. For example, we wanted to remove all of the audio system, but we had to keep one speaker to the seat belt chime to meet safety requirements. "

Other examples of weight saving include:

• Remove the tire inflation kit, except Rhode Island and New Hampshire, where the law requires
• Remove the soundproofing and trunk liner inside
• Replacing the standard battery with a small battery LN3 LN4, lighter
• specified 3.2 mm thin glass to rear, with respect to the glass of 3.5 mm in the standard window Camaro
• HID headlights and fog lights are not available
• Air conditioning is available as a separate option

"The team was so fanatical weight gain, even if we remove the unused harness son when we remove the fog lights, speakers and air conditioning," said Oppenheiser. "Every ounce saved this helped make the Camaro more capacity to track that we have built, and a worthy successor to the Z/28 name."
