The engines are assembled by hand. The 4163 cc V8 and V10 with displacement of 5204 cc displacement are captivating, powerful naturally aspirated engines power packed. The interaction with the new 7-speed S tronic has reduced its CO2 emissions by 22 g / km (35.41 g / mile) and a decrease in acceleration from zero to 100 km / h (62.14 mph) in three-tenths secon. Both engines are compact and relatively lightweight. The crankcase is an aluminum-silicon, the bed structure provides high rigidity. Dry sump lubrication allows low engine positioning, the recirculation pump pressure dependent functions of the office to increase efficiency.

FSI direct injection system allows a high compression ratio of 12.5: 1. Four adjustable camshafts control valves. At low engine load and speed, the vanes in the entry for an accurate rotation, the cylindrical inlet air. The exhaust system is designed for low-pressure against. The two exhaust pipes containing shutters open during hard acceleration to produce a richer sound.

The 4.2 FSI engine producing 316 kilowatts (430 hp) at 7900 rpm with a torque of 430 Nm (317.15 pounds ft) between 4500 and 6000 rpm. The unit accelerates the Audi R8 Coupe with S tronic rest to 100 km / h (62.14 mph) in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 300 km / h (186.41 mph) (manual transmission: 4 6 seconds and 302 km / h (187.65 mph)). For the R8 V8 Spyder the corresponding values are 4.5 and 4.8 seconds respectively, and also 300 km / h (186.41 mph). On average, the R8 V8 quattro as a coupe with S tronic consumes 12.4 liters per 100 km (18.97 U.S. mpg).

The V10 engine delivers a torque of 530 Nm (390.91 pounds ft) at 6500 rpm with 386 kilowatts (525 hp) at 8000 rpm. Its design is common crankshaft pin, causing alternating intervals of ignition 54 and 90 degrees. This design combines maximum rigidity and low weight, while at the same time generate competition as the only noise the V10 car.

The dual clutch transmission can be shifted into the shift lever or the paddles on the steering wheel, sport mode is available as an alternative. By pressing a launch control button operates from an initial speed of the engine and a shift of the optimal tires.

The new 7-speed S tronic, with a design of three axes is less than 60 centimeters (23.62 inches) in length. Two disc clutches behind the other (new functionality) are two mutually independent sub-transmissions, the speed that the clutches are directly open and close alternately. Gear changes occur virtually without interrupting the tractive force in hundredths of a second, and so dynamically, smoothly and comfortably as to be hardly noticeable.

7 the S-tronic transmission shaft passes through the motor housing to the front axle, wherein a viscous coupling distributes torque. In normal operation, the coupling is approximately 15 per cent of torque to the front wheels when the rear wheels begin to turn up to 15 percent of additional stream before. Mechanical locking differential at the rear axle works. Force rear load distribution fits perfectly with the concept mid-engine Audi R8. The distribution of axle load is 43: 57 (front: rear), with small differences between the individual variants.

The chassis of the car high performance sport racing technology. Forged aluminum double wishbones guide all four wheels. In the R8 V10 on the springs and shock absorbers have been specially calibrated and adjustable camber on the front axle adapted accordingly.
